Night The Owl Slept

about

So this song came out of a massive Nick Drake spell of drowning myself in his music. 'Bryter Layter' had the biggest impact on me, the album I feel to be his most hopeful and accessible. The tuning of my guitar for this track was very different for me and really captured my imagination for writing. The lyrics came to me whistle on tour in my old band. The first line came out of being stuck in a traffic jam on the way to Brighton and took off from there. Although the song is not about traffic, or Brighton, having time on my hands whilst on the road really gave me space to construct my writing, with the song growing into a plea for escaping a place or feeling, rather than settling for the norm and everyday routines we can find ourselves in.
